The Japanese title for this piece is
“Ken Shin Tai Ichi” (translated: Sword, Spirit,
Body Becoming One) This is a central tenet in any martial arts;
achieving unity with the mind (spirit), body and whatever
weapon you find yourself using. Your body counts as a weapon.
When we first start training, these 3 elements are distinct and
separate. Over time and with more training, eventually they all
blend into one. This piece is of white porcelain paperclay,
unglazed.
